Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has spoken out against what she calls double standards in how society treats women and their bodies.

In a video shared on social media, the actress criticised men who now advise women to embrace their natural bodies after years of mocking and criticising their appearance.

According to her, the same people who once ridiculed women for not having certain body features are now the ones discouraging cosmetic surgery.

Blessing said the pressure from such comments has pushed many women to consider body enhancement procedures, including the Brazilian Butt Lift, widely known as BBL.

She argued that constant criticism and unrealistic expectations have played a major role in the rise of cosmetic surgeries among women.

She said, “You people mocked women for years because of their bodies, but now you are the same ones telling them to love themselves the way they are. Many women went for BBL because of the insults and pressure they received about their bodies. You bullied women for not having big backsides, and now you are telling them not to do surgery. No amount of insults or abuse will push me to change my body. This body is my hard work and the success I have achieved”.

The actress stressed that every woman should have the freedom to decide what to do with her body without facing judgment from others.

Blessing also made it clear that she is satisfied with her current body and has no plans to change it because of outside opinions.

However, she noted that the only type of procedure she might consider in the future would be weight loss surgery if it ever becomes necessary.

“I am proud of my body, and I will not alter it because people talk. Women should be free to make their own decisions about their bodies. If I ever decide to do any surgery, it will only be weight-loss surgery. I will not go for enhancement procedures like BBL. People should stop judging women for the choices they make about their bodies”, she said.

Blessing’s comments have added to ongoing conversations about body image and cosmetic surgery. Her message highlights the pressure many women face and calls for greater respect for personal choices about their bodies.

As discussions about beauty standards continue online, her statement reflects a growing call for people to avoid judging others based on appearance.

The actress shared her thoughts during a conversation on the Afropolitan Podcast, where she reflected on their 30 years together and what has helped their marriage remain strong.

Omotola explained that trust has always been a key part of their relationship. According to her, she has never had to confront her husband about cheating.

“I’ve been married to him now 30 years. I’ve never fought over a girl, you know?. He doesn’t disturb me. If I have to go to my work, I go to my work. I come back. He trusts me totally. I trust him.”

She also spoke about the importance of couples sharing the same goals and understanding each other’s values. For her, marriage is deeply personal, and every relationship is different.

Omotola made it clear that while divorce may work for some people, it is not something she sees as an option in her own marriage.

“Divorce is not an option for me. It doesn’t mean it’s not an option for you. Let’s get that straight. I’m not against divorce. I just always believe that marriage is a very personal thing. My marriage can never be the same thing as your marriage. No two marriages are the same because no two persons are the same.”

She added that different couples face different challenges. Some may struggle with broken trust and the effort needed to rebuild it.

“You might be dealing with someone that has broken your trust and you’re trying to build that back. So those things are different… For me, how do you want to penetrate? It’s going to be very hard because I know this person. I’ve been with this person for 30 years, since I was 18,” she added.

The actress and her husband have often been seen as one of the most enduring couples in the Nigerian entertainment space, with many fans praising their long-standing union.

Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her only son, Raymond. She said the teenager died after what she described as medical negligence at a hospital in Lagos.

The actress spoke about the experience during a recent episode of the The Honest Bunch Podcast posted on YouTube on Monday.

Raymond was the only child she had with her former husband, Charles Ekwu. The couple got married in 2000 but ended their marriage six years later.

A lifelong battle with sickle cell

During the interview, the 60-year-old actress explained that her son lived with sickle cell disease. She said the condition happened because both she and her former husband carried the AS genotype.

According to her, she took full responsibility for caring for her son and covered all his medical bills after his father left the family.

The hospital visit that turned tragic

Ms Anunobi said the incident that led to her son’s death happened during what was meant to be a routine hospital visit.

“He turned 16, and we did not go to the hospital. At 16 years and five months, I travelled again, I think it was to London. When I returned, there was nothing wrong with him at all. I said, ‘Let’s just do his normal, regular check-up,’ so I took him to the hospital. The haematologist asked me, ‘Has he ever had a blood transfusion?’ I replied, ‘We only did it that initial time when he was young, just before his father abandoned us.’”

“I told the doctor we did it when he was about three years old. He said that now that he was 16, he should have another blood transfusion to boost his blood count. I agreed. They then told me to go and pay for the blood, so I went out to make the payment. The doctor gave instructions to a student doctor, but instead of carrying out a blood transfusion, the student doctor performed a blood extraction, removing three pints of my son’s blood.”

A desperate attempt to save him

The actress said she noticed something was wrong when she returned to the ward.

“It was becoming jaundiced, and that was when they said they wanted to take my son to the ICU. Long story short, the doctors arrived and brought oxygen. Long story short, that was how my son died. So my son died due to medical negligence. But I have come to understand that it does not matter how anyone dies, whether young or old; we are all going to die.”

“And nobody will live forever because the word of God is my consolation. He lived for 16 years, six months and 22 days; he died on 22 August 2017. Today, by the way, happens to be my son’s birthday. That is one of the reasons I accepted this interview on 29 January. Today is my son’s birthday. I was praying, and I thought, ‘Wow, what a day.’ I am childless today, but I thank God. I have a few people who love me. I have a few people who call me mummy,” she said.

Life after the loss

Ms Anunobi said she has remained without another child since Raymond’s death. Still, she said she remains grateful to God for the chance to experience motherhood.

She described the years she spent raising her son as some of the most meaningful moments of her life.

“I’m grateful to God for having made me a mother. And I learned so much in the course of taking care of him, deep in my relationship with God. And so I learned, like they say, the hard way.”

She also speaks about her past marriage

The actress also reflected on her marriage to Mr Ekwu. She said she carried the financial responsibility throughout the relationship despite warnings from her parents before the wedding.

According to her, she once considered ending the relationship after learning that both of them had the AS genotype.

“I told him that my genotype is AS because I have always known since secondary school. So I asked him to go and do his genotype test, as it were, and he did. And then it happened to be AS. That’s when I said, No, we can’t continue this relationship. Charles Ekwu, if you’re listening to me, or if you see this video, you know what I’m saying isn’t a lie; I’m not lying against you.”

She said he convinced her to continue the relationship.

“He convinced me and said, ‘Baby, no,’ because he believed things would turn out differently.”

Raising their son alone

The actress later gave birth to Raymond, but she said he became ill at the age of one. Medical tests later confirmed that the child had the SS genotype.

She also alleged that her former husband left her to face the situation alone.

“He’s the same person who said he would be there with me through thick and thin. He’s the same person my parent said, ‘Eucharia, this guy is not it for you.’ I was the one paying the rent, I was the one doing everything. Charles never brought one naira. When I started the battle of my life, Charles turned,” she said.

Eucharia Anunobi’s story brings attention to the struggles many families face while caring for children living with sickle cell disease. It also highlights the emotional toll of losing a child.

Even after the painful loss, the actress says her faith has helped her move forward while holding on to the memories of the 16 years she spent with her son.

The video began circulating on social media after the incident, which took place on Friday, March 6. According to the actress, she and her team had visited the school for an evangelism outreach.

Tonto explained that they were preparing to leave the school when something unexpected happened.

She said she sensed what she described as a spirit of death around the environment. This moment, she said, led to the deliverance session that was later shared online.

The video quickly drew mixed reactions on social media. While some people supported her actions, others criticized the incident and questioned whether such a session should have happened in a school setting.

Despite the backlash, the actress appeared calm and unbothered.

On Saturday, March 7, she returned to Instagram where she shared more videos from the outreach and addressed the situation. In her message, Tonto said the event was not something she or her team planned.

She wrote:

“God alone did it, may His name forever be praised. What we witnessed was not by our strength, wisdom, or planning. It was purely the hand of God moving among His children. The actress also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and said she believed lives were touched during the outreach.

According to her claims, Aduke was asked to leave both her home and business premises without notice. She also said customers were still eating at the restaurant when the incident happened.

In a recent interview, the reality TV star shared that her birth name is Blessing. However, she said she has grown to dislike the name because it does not reflect what she went through as a child.

According to Phyna, the meaning of the name feels far from the reality she experienced during her early years. She explained that her childhood was filled with emotional struggles and moments where she felt unloved.

While speaking about her past, she said she often found herself searching for acceptance from people around her. This included family members, friends, and romantic partners. Many of those experiences, she said, ended with rejection and harsh words.

“The name given to me by my parents is Blessing. My reason for hating that name was that I don’t see a sense of blessing in my life. It felt like I was always begging for love – family love, friendship, even in relationships. Even, in fact, dem don use am curse me.”

Phyna also described her upbringing as very difficult. She said there were many things teenagers usually receive from their parents and relatives that she never had.

“All aspects of growing up for me were very cràzy. As a teenager, there are things you could get from parents and family, but I didn’t have that. I knew for one that I was going to be big. Growing up, I would always tell my aunts, even when they beat or maltreated me, that I would tell them they would watch me on Television and I would have money”, she said.

Despite the pain she experienced, Phyna said she always believed her life would change. She shared that even as a child, she was confident she would one day become successful and well known.

That belief, she explained, kept her moving forward during some of her hardest moments.

Today, the reality star is widely known across Nigeria following her victory on Big Brother Naija. Her journey shows how determination and belief can help someone rise beyond difficult beginnings.
