Christians have been reminded that forgiveness is essential for peaceful living as they reflect on the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Rt. Rev. Sunday Adewole, Bishop of the Diocese of Kwara, Anglican Communion, delivered this message during the Good Friday service at the Cathedral of Saint Barnabas, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin, yesterday.

Preaching on the theme, “The Way of the Cross,” Bishop Adewole reflected on the seven final words of Jesus on the cross. He emphasized that forgiveness is the foundation for harmonious relationships.

He said, “We must cultivate the habit of forgiveness. Forgive yourself and forgive others because we cannot live together without offending one another. Husband, forgive your wife, and wife, forgive your husband.”

The bishop noted that many broken relationships could heal if people let go of grudges and embraced reconciliation. He also urged parents to watch their words, highlighting that what they say can greatly shape their children’s future.

“Youth should take responsibility for the care and wellbeing of their parents,” he added, calling this both a moral duty and a command rooted in faith.

Adewole encouraged worshippers not to lose hope, reminding them that delays in life are not the same as denial. “Delay is not denial. Stay faithful and do not lose hope. God’s plans will always come to pass at the right time,” he said.

The cleric also warned against a lifestyle of sin, urging Christians to remain disciplined and committed to righteous living while entrusting all challenges to God. “Do not develop a taste for sin. Remain faithful and commit everything into the hands of God,” he added
Bishop Adewole’s message underscores the power of forgiveness, patience, and faith in building strong families and communities. Christians are encouraged to carry these lessons into their daily lives and trust God’s timing.
