Nigerian music legend Eedris Abdulkareem has sparked a heated conversation nationwide after the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) banned his latest protest song, ‘Tell Your Papa’, labeling it “Not To Be Broadcast.” The rapper says the move is a direct attack on truth and free speech.

In a bold response shared via his official Instagram account, veteran rapper Eedris Abdulkareem accused the Nigerian government and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) of censorship after his newly released protest song, Tell Your Papa, was banned from airplay.

According to a memo dated April 9, 2025, the NBC said the song violated Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which prohibits materials considered “objectionable.”

“This is just another attempt to silence the truth,” Abdulkareem wrote. “It’s obvious that in Nigeria, truth and constructive criticism is always deemed a big crime by the government.”

Abdulkareem didn’t hold back in his criticism. He related the current situation to the 2004 ban of his iconic protest track Jaga Jaga during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration.

He questioned the country’s democratic progress, calling out the present administration led by President Bola Tinubu for allegedly being intolerant of dissenting voices.

“This present government led by President Bola Tinubu is now going on record as one of the most insensitive, vindictive and grossly maleficent administration ever to preside over the affairs of Nigeria,” he stated.

The rapper insisted that music has always been his weapon of truth, and this ban only strengthens his resolve to speak out.

“They are instructing broadcast houses to shield the government by hiding the candle under the table,” he said. “Any wonder why Nigeria hasn’t made impactful strides all these years? The conscience is an open wound, only the truth can heal it. Aluta Continua!”

Abdulkareem’s message has reignited debate over freedom of expression in Nigeria, especially when it comes to artists and activists using their platforms to call out social injustice.

What are your thoughts on the NBC’s ban of Eedris Abdulkareem’s song? Is this censorship or a justified regulatory action? Join the conversation below and let your voice be heard.

Afrobeats singer Davido is under legal fire in the U.S. after being accused of stealing a song to produce his 2024 track, Strawberry on Ice. The Manhattan District Court has given him 21 days to respond to the copyright lawsuit.

On April 4, 2025, the United States District Court in Manhattan hit Nigerian music icon David ‘Davido’ Adeleke with a 21-day deadline to respond to a copyright infringement lawsuit. The suit, filed by four Nigerian artists are Martins Chukwuka Emmanuel, Abel Great Umaru, Kelvin Ayodele Campbell, and David Ovhioghena Umaru claims Davido stole their 2022 song to create his 2024 release Strawberry on Ice.

According to court documents, the plaintiffs initially sent the track to Davido in January 2022 in hopes of securing a collaboration. However, instead of collaborating, they allege the artist handed the song over to Sierra Leonean singer Emmerson Amidu Bockarie, who sampled both vocals and instrumentals to produce Strawberry on Ice.

The plaintiffs claim that no permission was granted and no credits were given. This led to multiple attempts at a private settlement which reportedly ended with Davido agreeing to pay $45,000 and grant the group 40% of the song’s composition royalties and 20% of its recording royalties.

Despite the agreement made on March 14, 2025, the plaintiffs say Davido missed the March 24 deadline to fulfill his part of the deal. With no payment or royalty arrangements honored, the artists moved forward with a full-blown lawsuit.

They are now demanding:

  • $150,000 in damages
  • 40% copyright ownership of the Strawberry on Ice composition
  • 20% ownership of its sound recording rights
  • A court order preventing Davido and his team from using the track or infringing on any of their future works.

The lawsuit doesn’t stop at Davido. It also includes:

  • Sierra Leonean artist Emmerson
  • Carlos Jenkins
  • Matthew Quinney
  • Marques Miles II
  • Wynn Records, the label behind the release of Strawberry on Ice

As of April 10, Davido has not made any public comment or legal response to the suit, leaving fans and the music industry hanging. With the clock ticking on his 21-day deadline, all eyes are now on what move the Afrobeats superstar will make next.

The lawsuit could potentially shake up the international Afrobeats scene if the court rules in favor of the plaintiffs. Until then, fans are left wondering: will Davido settle, fight, or stay silent?

Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has made a bold statement about her relationship with music executive Paulo Okoye — and it’s not what fans were expecting!

In a surprising revelation, popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has confirmed that marriage is off the table in her relationship with renowned music executive Paul Okoye, widely known as Paulo. Speaking on TVC’s Your View, Ojo clarified that while they’re in a loving relationship, neither of them is aiming for marriage.

“We don’t want marriage,” she said bluntly, leaving fans both shocked and intrigued.

Iyabo, a mother of two, explained the arrangement that works perfectly for her and Paulo. Describing both herself and her partner as “workaholics,” she emphasized the importance of personal space in their relationship.

“Because of the way I work, I am such a workaholic, and he is also a workaholic. That Igbo man likes to work,” she said with a laugh. “There are times when I want to be alone, and I just pack my bags and return to my house. We never fight over that because he understands.”

The actress went public with her relationship with Paulo in December 2022 on her 45th birthday, sharing a romantic video montage of their moments together. While fans anticipated a wedding announcement, Iyabo’s recent statement flips the script on celebrity relationship expectations.

She stressed that the foundation of their relationship is mutual respect and understanding—not traditional commitments.

Interestingly, Paulo himself has joked about the relationship dynamics. In a past interview, he teased that Iyabo had “invaded his space” and jokingly said she had “snatched” him from his “numerous side chics.”

Despite the playful banter, their relationship seems to be rooted in clear boundaries and genuine affection—just without the wedding bells.

What do you think about a love that skips marriage entirely? Is it the future of modern relationships or a recipe for disaster? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

When it comes to traveling, one of the biggest challenges is deciding what to bring. Whether you’re heading to a tropical beach or exploring a city for a week, it’s easy to overpack.

However, packing light is not only convenient, but it can also save you time, money, and stress. If you’ve ever struggled with a heavy suitcase, you know that hauling a big bag around can be exhausting. The good news is that with some smart packing light tips, you can pack efficiently for a 7-day trip.

1. Make a Packing List

The first step to packing light is creating a packing list. This will help you stay organized and avoid throwing in unnecessary items. Break down your list into categories like clothing, toiletries, electronics, and accessories. When you start to pack, only add items you absolutely need. A good rule of thumb is to pack for versatility. Think about clothing items that can be mixed and matched. Also, check the weather forecast at your destination to avoid packing things you won’t need, like winter coats during a summer trip.

2. Choose Clothing Wisely

Clothing tends to take up a lot of space in your suitcase, but with a little planning, you can cut down on how much you need. Here are some simple tips for packing clothes:

  • Stick to a Color Palette: Choose a color scheme so you can mix and match your clothes. Neutral colors like black, white, grey, and navy blue go with almost everything. You can add a pop of color with accessories like scarves or jewelry.
  • Pack Multi-purpose Items: Bring clothes that serve more than one purpose. For example, a cardigan can be worn over a dress or paired with jeans. A pair of black pants can work for both casual outings and dressier dinners.
  • Limit Shoes: Shoes take up a lot of room in your suitcase. Try to limit yourself to just two or three pairs. A comfortable pair of walking shoes, flip-flops (if you’re heading to the beach), and one dressier pair should be enough for most trips.
  • Roll, Don’t Fold: Rolling your clothes instead of folding them not only saves space, but it also helps prevent wrinkles.

3. Pack Travel-Sized Toiletries

Toiletries can add a lot of extra weight and bulk to your luggage, especially when you bring full-sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Instead, pack travel-sized versions of your toiletries. You can find travel-sized bottles at most stores or purchase reusable travel containers. If your accommodation provides toiletries, skip bringing those items altogether.

  • Use Solid Toiletries: Consider switching to solid versions of toiletries like shampoo bars, soap, and toothpaste. These take up much less space and are often lighter than their liquid counterparts.
  • Stick to the Essentials: Pack only the toiletries you use every day. You can always buy any extras you may need once you arrive at your destination.

4. Limit Electronics and Accessories

While it’s tempting to bring all your gadgets and accessories, the key to packing light is to only bring what you truly need. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Use Your Phone for Everything: Your phone can serve as your camera, alarm clock, map, and entertainment device. Try to leave other gadgets like tablets and e-readers at home.
  • Don’t Overpack Accessories: Keep your accessories simple and practical. A lightweight scarf, a small purse, or a crossbody bag can be all you need. Avoid packing bulky items like large hats or heavy jewelry that you won’t wear every day.

5. Choose the Right Bag

The bag you choose is key to packing light. Instead of bringing a large suitcase, opt for a small carry-on bag or a backpack. These bags are compact, easy to carry, and help limit what you pack.

  • Invest in a Quality Bag: A good carry-on bag should be durable and comfortable. Look for one with multiple compartments to keep your items organized.
  • Use Packing Cubes: Packing cubes are small, lightweight organizers that help keep your clothes compact and wrinkle-free. You can use them to separate your clothes by type or by outfit.

6. Consider Laundry Options

If you’re staying at a place with laundry facilities, there’s no need to pack a full week’s worth of clothes. You can do a load of laundry halfway through your trip. If you’re not sure about laundry options, pack items that dry quickly and can be worn multiple times. For example, quick-drying fabrics like athletic wear are great for re-wearing and washing easily.

7. Don’t Forget the Essentials

Make sure you bring all the essentials, but don’t overdo it. You’ll need:

  • Travel Documents: Passport, tickets, reservation confirmations, and any other documents.
  • Money: Bring a mix of cash, credit cards, and travel money for emergencies.
  • Health Essentials: Any necessary medications and basic first-aid items, like pain relievers or band-aids.

8. Don’t Pack for Every Possible Situation

One of the biggest mistakes people make when packing is trying to be prepared for every possible scenario. It’s tempting to pack for all weather conditions or every activity you might do. However, you’ll likely find that most situations don’t require the extra clothing or gear. Focus on packing for the activities you know you’ll be doing, and leave the “just in case” items behind.

9. Leave Space for Souvenirs

If you plan to buy souvenirs during your trip, remember to leave some room in your bag for them. Packing too tightly means you might not have enough space for new items, and you may end up struggling to fit them in.

Conclusion

Packing light for a 7-day trip doesn’t have to be a stressful task. By following these packing light tips, you can enjoy the freedom of traveling with a small, manageable bag. Start with a packing list, choose versatile clothing, use travel-sized toiletries, and limit your electronics and accessories. By thinking ahead and packing only what you really need, you can have a stress-free and enjoyable trip.

With these packing light tips in mind, you’re all set to pack smart for your next adventure. Safe travels!

Are you tired of your laptop running slow? Whether you’re working on an important project, gaming, or just browsing the web, a slow laptop can be really frustrating. The good news is, there are simple tricks you can use to speed up your slow laptop without needing to buy a new one.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to improve your laptop’s performance using easy steps that anyone can do.

Why is My Laptop So Slow?

Before we jump into the solutions, let’s first understand why your laptop might be slow. There are a few common reasons:

  1. Too Many Programs Running: Having too many apps open at the same time can make your laptop sluggish.
  2. Low Storage: When your laptop’s hard drive or SSD is almost full, it can slow things down.
  3. Old Software: Outdated programs and operating systems can cause performance issues.
  4. Too Many Startup Programs: Some programs start automatically when you turn on your laptop, eating up resources.
  5. Malware or Viruses: Bad software running on your computer can affect its speed.

Now that you know why your laptop might be slow, let’s look at how you can speed it up!

1. Close Unnecessary Programs

When you have a lot of programs running, your laptop can become overloaded. To fix this, close programs you aren’t using. On Windows, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager, where you can see what programs are running and end the ones you don’t need. On macOS, open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder to check the apps that are slowing you down.

2. Clear Your Storage

If your laptop’s storage is almost full, it can really slow down. You can free up space by deleting files you no longer need. Here are a few tips to do this:

  • Delete old files: Go through your documents, downloads, and other folders and remove anything you no longer need.
  • Clear your browser cache: Over time, your web browser stores data from websites, which can take up a lot of space. Clearing your browser history and cache can help free up space and speed things up.
  • Use Disk Cleanup (Windows): Windows has a built-in tool called Disk Cleanup that can help you remove temporary files, system files, and more.

On Mac, you can use Storage Management to help you find large files and remove them.

3. Update Your Software

Outdated software can slow down your laptop. Always make sure your operating system and software are up-to-date. Most software updates include bug fixes and performance improvements.

  • On Windows, go to Settings > Update & Security to check for updates.
  • On a Mac, click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner and choose System Preferences > Software Update.

Updating your software regularly helps keep your laptop running smoothly and securely.

4. Disable Startup Programs

When you start your laptop, some programs automatically open and run in the background. While this can be useful for some apps, it can also make your laptop slower to boot up. To speed up your laptop, you can stop unnecessary programs from starting automatically.

  • On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager. Click on the Startup tab and disable programs you don’t need to start automatically.
  • On macOS, go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Click on your user account, then click the Login Items tab. Uncheck any programs you don’t need to open automatically.

5. Run a Virus Scan

Malware or viruses can seriously slow down your laptop. To avoid this, run a full virus scan using your antivirus software. If you don’t have antivirus software, you can download free ones like Avast or Windows Defender (which is built into Windows).

If you find any viruses or malware, remove them immediately to get your laptop back to full speed.

6. Add More RAM (Memory)

If your laptop is still slow after trying the steps above, it might be because it doesn’t have enough memory (RAM) to run all your programs smoothly. If you’re comfortable with it, you can upgrade your laptop’s RAM to help it run faster.

This can be a bit more technical, so if you don’t know how to do this, ask someone who is experienced or take your laptop to a professional.

7. Keep Your Laptop Cool

Overheating can make your laptop slow down. Make sure your laptop has proper airflow by using it on a flat surface (not on a bed or couch). You can also use a laptop cooling pad to help keep it cool.

8. Reinstall the Operating System

If your laptop is still slow after trying all these steps, it might be time to reinstall the operating system. This will remove all the junk files and software that may have built up over time. Make sure to back up your important files before doing this!

On Windows, you can reset your laptop by going to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. On a Mac, you can reinstall macOS using macOS Recovery.

9. Upgrade to an SSD

If your laptop still uses an old Hard Disk Drive (HDD), upgrading to a Solid-State Drive (SSD) can make a huge difference in speed. SSDs are much faster than HDDs and will make your laptop boot up and load programs much quicker. This upgrade can be a bit more expensive, but it’s worth it if you want to give your laptop a significant performance boost.

10. Use Lightweight Apps

Sometimes, the apps you’re using can be too heavy for your laptop. Look for lightweight alternatives that don’t use as much memory. For example, instead of using a resource-heavy photo editor, try something simpler like Paint.NET or GIMP.

Conclusion

A slow laptop can be frustrating, but there are plenty of ways to speed it up. By following these simple tricks like closing unnecessary programs, clearing storage, updating software, and running virus scans, you can boost your laptop’s performance without spending a lot of money. If your laptop is still slow after trying everything, consider upgrading parts like the RAM or SSD.

With these tips, your laptop should be running faster in no time!

Happy smart home shopping!

If you’ve ever joined a soccer match, a basketball game, or any other team sport, you’ve likely experienced the thrill of working together toward a common goal. But did you know that playing team sports isn’t just fun, it also offers a ton of mental and physical benefits?

Whether you’re a teenager looking for a new hobby or someone considering joining a sports team, this blog post will highlight five key benefits of playing team sports. Let’s dive into why playing team sports is good for both your mind and body!

1. Improved Physical Health

One of the most obvious benefits of team sports is the positive impact on your physical health. When you play sports like football, volleyball, or basketball, you’re constantly moving, running, and jumping. This helps improve your overall fitness. Team sports are great for building endurance, strength, and coordination. You’ll notice improvements in your cardiovascular health, flexibility, and muscle tone as well.

Unlike working out alone in the gym, team sports keep you engaged and active in a fun, competitive environment. Plus, when you’re part of a team, you’re less likely to skip practice or avoid physical activity. It’s easy to stay motivated when you’re working toward a shared goal with friends.

2. Boosted Mental Health

Playing team sports isn’t just good for your body, it’s also great for your mind. Physical activity has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Sports help release endorphins, which are natural mood boosters. After a good game, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment, pride, and happiness.

Furthermore, the social aspect of team sports can help combat loneliness and isolation. Being part of a team gives you a sense of belonging and connection with others. This support system can be incredibly helpful for managing stress and mental health challenges. Whether you’re having a rough day at school or dealing with personal issues, your teammates are there to cheer you on and lift your spirits.

3. Enhanced Communication Skills

Communication is key in every aspect of life, and team sports are the perfect environment to improve your communication skills. In a game, players need to talk to each other, whether it’s calling for the ball, giving instructions, or encouraging teammates. By regularly participating in these conversations, you’ll become more comfortable with both verbal and non-verbal communication.

These skills translate to everyday life. Whether you’re working on a group project at school or talking to friends and family, your ability to communicate clearly and effectively will improve. You’ll also develop better listening skills, which are essential for building strong relationships.

4. Teaches Teamwork and Collaboration

Team sports are all about working together. In soccer, for example, everyone has their role, from the goalkeeper to the forwards. If one person doesn’t do their job, the whole team suffers. This is an important lesson in teamwork and collaboration. You learn that success is not just about individual performance, but about helping others and relying on them in return.

The skills you gain in teamwork are valuable not just in sports, but in other areas of life. Whether in school projects or future careers, learning to work with others is a crucial life skill. Team sports teach you how to cooperate with people who may have different strengths, opinions, or styles of working. These experiences will make you a more flexible and effective team player in any situation.

5. Boosts Confidence and Self-Esteem

Playing sports can also have a positive effect on your confidence. When you practice and improve your skills, you begin to feel more capable. Scoring a goal, making a great pass, or helping your team win a game gives you a sense of achievement. It’s easy to feel proud of your contributions when you know your hard work is paying off.

For many teens, being part of a team can also boost self-esteem. In sports, everyone has something valuable to contribute, whether you’re a star player or someone who supports the team from the sidelines. Feeling like you’re part of something bigger than yourself, working toward a common goal, and being appreciated by your teammates can make a big difference in how you view yourself.

Conclusion

The benefits of playing team sports extend far beyond physical fitness. From improving your mental health to teaching you the importance of teamwork, playing team sports helps you grow as a person. It provides opportunities for building friendships, improving communication, and boosting your confidence. Plus, the physical benefits you gain from regular activity are just the cherry on top.

If you’re new to running, the thought of hitting the pavement might seem a bit overwhelming, but don’t worry! With a few helpful tips, you’ll be running like a pro in no time. Here are some easy running for beginners tips to guide you on your journey.

1. Start Slow and Steady

The most important thing when you’re just starting out is to take it slow. Don’t try to run too fast or too far in the beginning. Instead, focus on building your stamina and endurance gradually. Start by running at a comfortable pace for 10-15 minutes, and then gradually increase the time as your body gets used to it. Remember, it’s all about progress, not perfection.

Why it helps: Starting slow reduces the risk of injury and helps your body adjust to running. It also makes running more enjoyable as you build strength and confidence.

2. Set Realistic Goals

Setting goals is a great way to stay motivated. But be sure your goals are realistic and achievable, especially in the beginning. For example, you might set a goal to run for 20 minutes without stopping or to run a 5k race in a few months. Start with small, manageable goals and then gradually increase the difficulty as you improve.

Why it helps: Realistic goals keep you motivated and focused, while giving you a sense of accomplishment when you reach them.

3. Choose the Right Shoes

One of the most important pieces of running gear is your shoes. Wearing the right pair of running shoes will help protect your feet and joints from injury. Look for shoes that fit well, offer good support, and are designed for running. It’s worth spending a little extra time and money on finding the right pair.

Why it helps: Proper shoes can make running more comfortable and reduce the risk of blisters or joint pain.

4. Warm Up and Cool Down

Before you start your run, take a few minutes to warm up your muscles. This can include light stretching, walking, or jogging. Warming up helps prepare your body for the activity and can prevent injuries. Similarly, after you finish running, take time to cool down by walking for a few minutes and stretching your muscles.

Why it helps: Warming up and cooling down helps improve flexibility and reduces the chance of injury. It also helps your body recover after a workout.

5. Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is crucial when you’re running, especially if you’re running for longer periods of time or in hot weather. Make sure to drink water before, during, and after your run. If you’re planning a long run, you might also want to carry water with you or plan your route around places where you can refill your water bottle.

Why it helps: Proper hydration keeps your body functioning well and helps prevent dehydration, which can make you feel tired or dizzy during your run.

6. Listen to Your Body

As a beginner, it’s important to pay attention to how your body feels. If you experience pain or discomfort, stop running and rest. Don’t push through the pain, as this can lead to injury. Take a break, stretch, or even walk if needed. Running should challenge you, but it shouldn’t hurt.

Why it helps: Listening to your body prevents injury and helps you stay healthy in the long term.

7. Mix Running with Walking

If you’re not able to run for long stretches at first, that’s okay! Mixing running and walking is a great way to build up your endurance without overloading your body. For example, you can start with 1-2 minutes of running followed by 2-3 minutes of walking. As you get stronger, you can increase the running time and decrease the walking time.

Why it helps: Walking breaks make running less intimidating and give your body time to recover during your workout.

8. Track Your Progress

Tracking your running progress is a great way to stay motivated and see how much you’ve improved. You can use a running app, a fitness tracker, or even just write it down in a notebook. Record things like the distance you ran, how long you ran, and how you felt during your workout. Over time, you’ll see how much you’ve accomplished!

Why it helps: Tracking your progress keeps you motivated and lets you celebrate your achievements, no matter how small.

9. Don’t Forget to Rest

Rest is just as important as running. Your muscles need time to recover and rebuild after each run. Make sure to take rest days between your runs to let your body recover. This will help you avoid burnout and injuries, and it’ll keep you feeling fresh for your next run.

Why it helps: Rest prevents overtraining, which can lead to exhaustion and injury. It also allows your body to repair and grow stronger.

10. Have Fun and Stay Positive

Finally, don’t forget to have fun! Running should be an enjoyable experience, so try not to stress about hitting a certain pace or distance. Celebrate each milestone, no matter how small, and enjoy the process. Stay positive and remind yourself of why you started running in the first place.

Why it helps: A positive attitude makes running more enjoyable and keeps you motivated to keep going.

Conclusion

Starting your running journey may feel challenging at first, but with these running for beginners tips, you’ll find it easier to stay motivated and make progress. Remember to take things slow, set realistic goals, and listen to your body. Before you know it, you’ll be running longer distances and feeling stronger every day.
